MR and Quiksilver
We're very stoked that Quiksilver is using Dan Merkel's classic shot of Mark Richards aka MR aka The Wounded Gull in it's latest advertising campaign. There's no mistaking MR's style and Merkel captured this straight legged bottom turn at Off the Wall on the North Shore of Oahu in the heyday of the Bustin' Down the Door era.

Flynn is Swell
Flynn Novak has been a fixture on the North Shore for years now. You usually see him parked in a massive Pipe pit or perfecting his Flynnstone Flip at Rocky Point. Recently, A-Frame photographer, Brent Bielmann scored the cover of the Swell catalog with Flynn putting it on rail. By shooting from a unique perspective, Brent managed to differentiate his photos from the rest of the pack shooting on the beach. Well done Brent!

Zak Noyle Atop a White Horse
We're stoked that A-Frame photographer Zak Noyle had his shot of Kalani Chapman standing tall in a rainbow-backed Tahitian shack chosen to grace the cover of the 4th issue of White Horses. If you haven't checked out White Horses, you need to. More megazine than magazine, this beauty deserves space on your coffee table rather than your bathroom.

Steve Pezman in the LA Times
Ahhh...the Sunday newspaper. I can't think of many things more enjoyable than relaxing on a Sunday catching up on the news. It was great to see a legend such as Steve Pezman profiled in the Business section of the Los Angeles Times this last week. In the article Pez chats about creating the Surfer's Journal with his wife Debee and evolution of the publication over the years.
Actually one thing more enjoyable then that Sunday newspaper is when the newest Surfer's Journal arrives in the mail!

ESPN's 50 Most Influential People in Action Sports
ESPN
recently named their 50 most influential people in action sports and
while we were happy to see some of surfing's usual suspects on the list
like Shane Dorian (No. 45), John John Florence (No. 16), Dane Reynolds (No. 14), Stephanie Gilmore (No. 13) and Kelly Slater (No. 1), we were really stoked to see one of A-Frame's original contributors and good friend, David Reddick
(No. 42) make the list. Dave's not only a legendary photographer and
photo editor for Bike and Powder Magazines, he's one of nicest humans
you'll ever meet. Great to see that ESPN recognized Dave's contributions
to the action sports world!
David Reddick has been the photo editor at Powder and Bike magazines since 1992 and he's launched many photographers' careers. "No one has had more of an influence on the evolution of ski photography than Reddick," says photographer Grant Gunderson.
