Steep and Deep Photo Challenge

LiveLikeSion.com - The 2nd Annual Steep and Deep Pipeline Photo Challenge Begins Saturday, November 10, 2012

We are excited to announce the second annual Steep and Deep Pipeline Photo
Challenge! The contest returns after a successful inaugural event, with Billy Kemper and photographer Zak Noyle taking top honors for a dreamy, backlit Pipe bomb. This year we look forward to even more barrels more prize money — all in loving memory of Sion Milosky.

Sion was an extraordinarily talented and humble family man. His unparalleled bravery in big waves and his first passion, charging pipeline, made a lasting impact on the greater surf world. Steep and Deep celebrates the commitment that Sion embodied by rewarding the surfer and photographer who link up for the best water photograph of the winter from Pipeline or Backdoor. The contest waiting period begins on November 10 and closes on February 10. Any surfer who registers has a chance to win. And any photographer, regardless of magazine, brand or media affiliation, is eligible to win. All entries must occur during free surf sessions — no waves ridden during a heat will be considered. Images will be judged by a panel of Sion's peers, Pipeline specialists and photography experts.

The winning surfer and photographer will receive $2500 each from Vans, as well as a custom hardwood framed copy of the winning image. Vans will also give a matching $5,000 donation to the Sion Milosky Memorial Fund.

Surfers and photographers can register in person at Sunset Beach Elementary on November 12, 6 to 9 pm, or via email at steepanddeeppipeline@gmail.com. The last day to register is November 30. A donation of $20.00 to the Sion Milosky Memorial Fund is suggested upon registration. All who participate will receive a T-Shirt and Live Like Sion stickers.

For more information, go to Livelikesion.com. Thanks and good luck!

Reef and Tom

Check out the Extreme Photo of the Week on National Geographic's website. It features Reef McIntosh continuing his epic run of scoring big swells around the world. This time he's captured at Cloudbreak in Fiji by arguably the man whose shot the most photos there, Mr. Tom Servais. Well done Reef and Tom!

Tom Carey Interview on Adorama

We're happy to see that Adorama interviewed one of A-Frame's most versatile photographers earlier this month. Tom Carey can shoot it all. Fisheye at Pipeline, flash shots in the Mentawai, land angles in Mexico and portraits of surfing's elite. In addition to that, he's also one of the funniest and most down to earth guys we've come across. Well done Tom!

Beached Days and Creatures From The Deep

Last night we took the short jaunt into Laguna Beach to check out two events. Beached Days is a new magazine from Mitch Abshere aka Captain Fin and the launch party was held at the ultra hip Thalia Surf Shop.

Steve Sherman sharing some stories

A-Frame photographers Tom Servais, Tom Carey, Todd Glaser and Steve Sherman all have some great images included in the maiden issue. Pick up a copy at a surf shop near you today.

Creatures From The Deep was described as a "menagerie of monsters, mermaids, and marine nightmare" from artists such as lex Rico, Andy Anderson, Anne Faith Nicholls, C.R. Stecyk III, Daniel Rolnik, Diana Danielis, Evan Ferrell, Garry Booth, Hannah Greenspan, Harry Diaz, Jason Maloney, J.P. Olson, Jennie Cotterill, Jesse Ortega, Jesse Tise, JOSHR, Kassandra Carey, Kevin Bannister, Lyndsey Lesh, Michael C Hsiung, Monster Kat, Nancy Chiu, Nicole Emmons, Shing Yin Khor, Stink, Susanne Melanie Berry, Tim Liles and Yevgeniya Mikhailik.

Here are a few of our favorite pieces along with a couple shots of a great band (The Manx) that entertained the crowd. Go check it out for yourself at 225 Forest St in Laguna Beach.

If you're on Oahu, make sure you don't miss this event on Friday, January 6th at 6 pm, The Manifest!

Zak Noyle will be showcasing his images from the recent 2011 North Shore surf season in the Red Bull Through My Eyes photo gallery. There will also be a screening of Red Bull Momentum, a short profile film on the life of Zak.

We've seen the trailer (as well as Zak's 2011 North Shore images) and are confident you'll be blown away at the footage Red Bull has put together.

If you can't make the event you can always see Zak's latest photos here.
